Fresh Del Monte Profits Rise
NEW YORK - May 1/07 - SNS -- Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. reported a net income of U.S. $51.6 million on sales of $836 million for the first quarter ending March 30, compared to a net of $16.5 million on sales of $840 million during the same three-month period last year.
Discussing its results, the company said the decrease in net sales was primarily due to the Company's aggressive efforts to improve the performance of its 'Other Fresh Produce' business segment in North America, mainly through the rationalization of its tomato and potato product lines.
The increase in net income was principally due to overall improved performance in the Company's global operations, a direct result of the strategic actions taken in 2006 to enhance long-term performance.
