Chickpeas Ignore Canadian Area HikeVANCOUVER - Apr 27/07 - SNS -- Chickpea markets remain relatively firm in the face of a massive, prospective increase in Canadian seeded area. Statistics Canada's seeding intentions report found growers in that country want to boost chickpea area from 355,000 to 520,000 acres. Markets are somewhat skeptical about whether growers will follow through on their chickpea intentions given the unusually high cost of planting seed; and the fact the crop has a bad history in western Canada in terms of disease.
