Korean Whiskey Sales Jump 13.3%SEOUL - Oct 23/02 - SNS -- Korea Alcohol & Liquor Industry Association reports whiskey consumption in that country is up 13.3% during the first nine months of 2002, advancing to 2.65 million boxes in the January to September period. Company level data revealed Jinro Ballantine's remains the market leader, selling 895,512 boxes of whiskey, up 27% over last year, giving the company a 33.8% share of the Korean spirits market. The second largest supplier is Lotte Chilsung, with a 12% market share of 12% and posting a 65.3% jump in sales to 316,925 boxes. In other major product categories, soju sales slipped 1% to 60.50 million boxes, while sales of beer edged 1.5% higher to 158 million boxes.
