Modest Decline in Red Meat InventoryWASHINGTON - Apr 20/07 - SNS -- Total red meat supplies in freezers dropped 2 million pounds in March to 959.8 million pounds, virtually unchanged from the previous year, notes the USDA in its latest report on agricultural products in cold storage. Frozen pork supplies rose 5% during the month to 505.6 million pounds, up almost 700,000 pounds from the previous year. Stocks of pork bellies were up 18% from last month at 55.3 million pounds and down 10% from last year. Supplies of beef were down 1% from year earlier levels at 432.6 million pounds, down around 25 million pounds from the previous month.
