Modest Increase in Ukraine Pea AreaVANCOUVER - Apr 3/07 - SNS -- Field pea seedings in the Ukraine are expected to undergo a modest increase this year as farmers in the country take advantage of relatively good prices and good movement. Even so, seeded area is not growing as much as the export potential for the crop because farmers encounter persistent problems during harvest, reports the U.S. agricultural attache for the country. "The major problem is rain during the period of harvest, which can make harvesting impossible. That is why farmers have not increased the sown area" much above recent averages the agricultural attache says. "Despite high export prices and strong international demand for Ukrainian peas."
