Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Apr 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from Cooktown to St Lawrence for Monday. STATE FORECAST for Monday night and Tuesday Isolated afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms near the coast west of Mornington Island in the Gulf Country. A few showers along the east coast and over Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. SE trade winds along the east coast, fresh at times over the Northern Tropical Coast. A high to very high fire danger over most of the south-east interior of the state. EXTENDED OUTLOOK On Wednesday the belt of high pressure over the southern ocean will maintain SE trade winds along the east coast of Queensland along with a few showers about exposed parts. Given the absence of any significant upper level systems on computer model forecasts for this week a continuation of fine weather is expected through the interior. NE winds over the interior will keep temperatures a little above average, while temperature should remain average along the east coast. A new high moves into the Great Australian Bight on Thursday and this high is forecast to push stronger SE trade winds over SE coastal waters during Friday. Expect shower activity to increase with this change. In the Gulf Country some isolated showers and thunderstorms may occur neat the coast west of Mornington Island. The outlook for the easter holidays at this stage is for these conditions to persist with isolated showers along the east coast and fine inland. Winds --- STAT News Service
