Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Apr 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from Cooktown to St Lawrence. STATE FORECAST for Monday Isolated afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms over the far north-west corner of the state. A few showers along the east coast and over Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Winds generally moderate to fresh SE becoming strong at times about parts of the east tropical coast. Cool to mild over the south of the state. A high to very high fire danger over most of the south-east interior of the state. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will weaken on Tuesday as a frontal system moves into and across the southern Tasman Sea. Ridging from the following high over the Great Australian Bight will then push through this front on Wednesday and maintain and reinforce the ridge along the east coast of Qld. So ridging will continue along the east coast into next weekend. The ridge along the east coast will continue direct moderate to fresh SE winds and showers into most east coast districts during this period. As well, during this period, these winds will generate mostly moderate to rough seas in open waters together with a moderate SE swell. Over the interior of the state, the weather will remain fine in most areas with relatively cool to mild conditions persisting over southern areas due mostly to the dryness of the air.
