Chickpea Unchanged in Area ConcernsVANCOUVER - Mar 30/07 - SNS -- North American chickpea markets finished the week little changed, with markets now wondering about how much land will end up in the crop this year. Growers in the United States somewhat surprised markets with their intention to reduce seeded area 8% to 125,500 acres. Small chickpea acreage is expected to be 2% below last year but 62% above 2005. Small chickpeas are defined as peas that will pass through a 20/64 inch round hole screen. Large chickpeas are expected to decline 9% from 2007 but increase 37% from two years ago.
