Worries About Indian Pulse YieldsVANCOUVER - Mar 28/07 - SNS -- Pulse traders in India believe the winter or rabi season chickpea harvest will be up 500,000 to one million metric tons (MT) smaller than expected because poor growing conditions in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Government forecasters were looking for production to come in around 6.1 million MT this year, up from 4.5 million in 2005-06. The forecast increase was based on a solid jump in seeded area from 6.905 million to 7.652 million acres. But, there were persistent worries about yield prospects because of dry conditions through the winter, while recent heavy rains interfered with harvest activity in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
