Feed Pea Markets StrengthenVANCOUVER - Mar 23/07 - SNS -- Feed pea markets in Europe continued to strengthen during the past week against expectations of a tighter supply situation in 2007-08. Coceral is looking for total grain seedings in Europe to expand from 58.78 million hectares last year to 59.61 million this year; while oilseed area jumps from 9.972 million to 10.426 million hectares. The industry group no longer tries to forecast pulse seedings, but with both grains and oilseeds rising, pulse area will decline. Such an outcome was already expected in the United Kingdom and France; while growers in the European Union's new member states are expected to switch from pulses, millet, mustard and canaryseed into regular grains and oilseeds to take advantage of more profitable income support systems. Tightening supplies were reflected in stronger spot and new crop bids in Belgium and the Netherlands, and a solid improvement in local prices in France, with average grower bids up 2% on the week.
