India Extends Pulse Duty ExemptionNEW DELHI - Mar 21/07 - SNS -- The Indian government will allow duty free pulse imports until March 31, 2008. Duty free pulse imports were slated to end on July 31 and were initially allowed to help curb food cost inflation caused by poor local crops in 2006-07. There had been considerable optimism this year's rabi season harvest would repair local shortfalls. But persistent dryness in some key pulse producing regions in the December through February quarter had left markets convinced yields would be below average and import needs higher than normal through the availability of next summer's kharif or monsoon crops.
