Turkey Hatchery Rises in FebruaryWASHINGTON - Mar 14/07 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity in the United States increased in February with more eggs in incubators and more poults placed, according to the USDA. Turkey eggs in incubators on March 1, 2007, in the United States totaled 31.2 million, up 4% from March 1, 2006. Eggs in incubators were down slightly from the February 1, 2007 total of 31.3 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up 5% at 4,908,000; West North Central up 6% at 12,098,000; North and South Atlantic up 3% at 9,790,000; and South Central and West up 3% at 4,422,000 eggs in incubators. The 24.0 million poults placed during February 2007 in the United States were up 3% from the number placed during the same month a year earlier.
