Chickpeas Little ChangedVANCOUVER - Mar 9/07 - SNS -- International chickpeas markets finished the week little changed against relatively strong demand for kabuli types. Limited availability from Australia and other origins has forced buyers to look around for alternate suppliers. While India's decision to lift its ban on kabuli chickpeas exports was welcome news, there was no immediate impact on markets. The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics is forecasting 2007-08 chickpeas output in that country could reach 264,000 metric tons (MT), up from an estimated 239,000 this season. Most of the crop will be desi type chickpeas intended for sale on the Indian subcontinent. It is worth noting this is not a survey based forecast.
