Firmer Thai Rice MarketsBANGKOK - Mar 3/07 - SNS -- A stronger national currency contributed to stronger Thailand rice markets during the past week, notes the U.S. agricultural attache in a report on the country's rice sector. "Export prices for most grades of rice were offered higher due to the strengthening of the Thai baht to 35.38 baht/US$, compared to the previous week's average of 35.50 baht/US$. "Despite this, Thai rice is relatively attractive to foreign buyers, such as Indonesia and Iran, who are aggressively sourcing rice for prompt shipments," the agricultural attache said. Thailand's government is also involved in government to government negotiations, with the aim of exporting one million MT of rice itself.
