Chickpeas UnchangedVANCOUVER - Mar 2/07 - SNS -- Chickpea markets were mainly unchanged in light trade during the past week across all shipping positions. Small caliber and desi chickpea growers are closely watching the evolving moisture situation in India, hopeful dryness so far during the rabi growing season will result in lower yields. Soil moisture reserves across all of India are expected to decline through March 9 as forecast precipitation remains at negligible levels or less than 25% of normal for the coming week, according to data from the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction. Moisture reserves remain on the dry side in Gujarat, Rajasthan and southern Pakistan and will likely decline further in the coming week.
