Feed Peas Helped by Firm Ag MarketVANCOUVER - Feb 23/07 - SNS -- The world's feed pea markets finished the week on a steady to firmer note in sympathy with continued strength in markets for corn, soybeans and other major agricultural commodities. Western Canadian field pea growers have been strongly reminded by local feed mills that they can be important buyers of feed peas at relatively high prices and in substantial volumes. Unfortunately, the fact bids lag those available for good quality food grade peas remains an impediment to developing ongoing grower interest in this market. And that is a problem to developing and maintaining feed pea demand at the levels needed to support the kind of acreage increases that are justified by efforts by a growing number of farmers to reduce operating costs by reducing their environmental footprint.
