Upward Momentum in PeasVANCOUVER - Feb 23/07 - SNS -- International field pea markets maintained their upward momentum during the past week against relatively steady export demand and increasingly reluctant grower selling. Markets in the United States were also helped by the latest USDA PL-480 food aid tender, which is seeking offers of 1,000 metric tons (MT) of whole green peas and 6,400 MT of whole and split yellow peas. Canadian markets are vulnerable, however, as the ongoing strike by CN Rail conductors prevents that railway from meeting its grain shipment commitments. It had already fallen behind prior to the strike, resulting in costly delays loading vessels at the Port of Vancouver.
