Little Change in Beans In Quiet TradeVANCOUVER - Feb 16/07 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets were little changed in quiet trading during the past week. North America's spot market index for dry edible beans finished the week at 899, up one point on the week; while the grower index finished unchanged at 826. Markets are increasingly concerned about production prospects for 2007, with farmers attending the Manitoba Special Crops Symposium talking about slashing dry edible bean, field pea and lentil area in the province to as little as 170,000 acres. Biodiesel and ethanol has grabbed the imagination of growers in that province and appears the be destined to result in a massive migration out of specialty crops back into traditional grains and oilseeds.
