Holiday Tone in Lentil MarketVANCOUVER - Feb 16/07 - SNS -- Lentil markets finished the week's trading on a generally easier tone in quiet trading conditions. Neither buyers nor sellers were pressing markets, allowing them to drift nominally lower. Most European buyers are only trading on a hand to mouth, fill-in basis, while their Latin American counterparts have been distracted by Carnival, which culminates with in Tuesday's Mardi Gras festivities. Carnival originates from the need to use up any meat and animal products before Ash Wednesday, the fay when Lent's 40 days of fasting and sacrifice begin. Asian markets also entered holiday mode during the week, with many markets closed Friday as people started Chinese New Year celebrations, which falls on February 18 this year, initiating the Year of the Pig.
