Export Pea Movement Picking UpVANCOUVER - Feb 6/07 - SNS -- Unofficial field pea clearances through Canadian ports during the first half of the 200-607 marketing year are down sharply from year earlier levels. Data available from the Canadian Ports Clearance Association shows total field pea clearances in the August through January period totalled 846,738 metric tons (MT) this season, down 18.2% from the same period during the previous marketing year. Clearances through licensed terminal elevators reporting to the association were down at all major ports, with Thunder Bay almost 100,000 MT lower at 131,199 and Vancouver almost 65,000 MT lower at 650,019 MT. The unofficial data is below that assembled by the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC), which, in turn, is significantly lower than the official export data published by Statistics Canada. The differences reflect the fact that neither the CGC nor the Ports Clearance Association cover all shippers and/or transportation methods, whereas Statistics Canada covers movement of all product by all means by all companies.
