South Africa Expects Smaller Pulse CropPRETORIA - Jan 24/07 - SNS -- Pulse production levels in South Africa will likely decline from last season on account of a smaller than expected dry edible bean seeded area, judging from the latest crop production estimates from South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS). In its first estimate of this year's summer bean area, SAGIS said it expects seedings to drop from 54,880 hectares last year to just 49,745 this year, a clear sign the edible bean industry is unable to maintain grower bids at levels which compete effectively with grains.
