General Drop in South African OilseedsPRETORIA - Jan 24/07 - SNS -- South Africa is looking at a general decrease in oilseed production across the 2006-07 season, with summer seeded areas down from last year and winter output down, according to the latest crop production estimates from South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS). The winter canola crop is now forecast at 39,725 metric tons (MT) from 34,700 hectares, down from last year's 44,2000 MT harvest from 40,200 hectares. The most important summer oilseed in sunflower, seeded area is expected to end up at 359,350 hectares, which is about 23.9% less than the 472,480 hectares planted the previous season.
