Field Peas SteadyVANCOUVER - Jan 12/07 - SNS -- Field pea markets finished the week mainly steady against limited, but ongoing export inquiries from the Indian subcontinent and elsewhere. A seasonal slowdown in loading activity at Canadian ports had little impact of markets because unseasonably cold and stormy winter weather is discouraging growers from selling or trying to deliver product. In some locations in the grower area temperatures plunged under minus 35, with wind chill making it seem closer to minus 48. At the same time, blizzards early in the week brought transportation to a standstill for a couple of days. The combination made transporting and handling peas and other specialty crops hazardous.
