Winter Durum Jumps 24%WASHINGTON - Jan 12/07 - SNS -- Durum wheat seedings in Arizona and California for 2007 harvest are estimated at 180,000 acres, reports the USDA This total is up 24% from their 2006 level. Planting is ongoing in California's San Joaquin and Imperial Valleys. By late December, early plantings had emerged with growth being slowed somewhat due to cooler than normal temperatures. Planted acreage is up 5,000 in Arizona and up 30,000 in California due mostly to good prices. No major problems with the crop have been reported.
