Australian Livestock Auction Action UpSYDNEY - Jan 12/07 - SNS -- Livestock sold through online auctions managed by AuctionsPlus Pty Ltd jumped during the past week on a general decline in sales activity because of the recent holiday period. Throughput for the week totalled 15,109 sheep and lambs, versus 5,189 head the previous auction, and 2,516 head of cattle, compared to none last week. "Throughputs began returning to normal this week . . . Today's cattle catalogue contained some very good quality cattle with ideal feedlot entry weights," AuctionsPlus's Dean Lemmich said. "No matter what district you talk to, large percentages of growers have water problems, given this, it's quite amazing to see store cattle and sheep selling so well. This of course will become even more exaggerated at drought's end and we will all need deep pockets to participate. We'll be counting the associated costs of this drought for many years to come."
