2006 -- Record Year For Pea ExportersVANCOUVER - Jan 3/07 - SNS -- Unofficial shipments of bulk conventional field peas through Canadian ports finished 2006 by setting a new calendar year record, judging from data submitted to the Canadian Ports Clearance Association by member terminals. The year finished with 1.58 million metric tons (MT) of field peas loaded to vessels through reporting terminals at Vancouver, Thunder Bay and Churchill, up 4.1% from the 1.52 million MT loaded in 2005. The previous best year was 2001 when 1.09 million MT was shipped through reporting terminals. It needs to be stressed official field pea exports will be significantly higher than those reported by the Ports Clearance Association because they count movement by all means by all companies. Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) data may also differ because export data is collected from somewhat different companies and locations.
