Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 2/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
Strong Wind Warning issued from central coast between Bowen to Gladstone for
late on Wednesday.
STATE FORECAST
for Wednesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the NW of the state, thunderstorms
increasing towards the south with possible severe thunderstorms in the Warrego
and eastern Channel Country. Early thundery rain clearing the southern Central
Highlands, western Darling Downs and NE Maranoa districts. Showers about the
east generally, isolated afternoon showers over the SE interior. Fine over the
tropical interior.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The high over the far southern Tasman Sea will move only slowly eastwards while
weakening but will still maintain a firm ridge along the east coast into the
weekend. This ridge will direct moderate to fresh SE winds and showers into most
east coast districts into the weekend. A low pressure system will likely develop
over the south-eastern Coral Sea during Friday and Saturday and will increase
the SE winds and showers about the coast south from Fraser Island. Over the
interior of the state an upper ridge near the far western border will keep
conditions fine or almost fine into the weekend. At best only isolated showers
and thunderstorms will occur around the southern Gulf of Carpentaria area. A new
upper trough will move into south-eastern Australia over the weekend and will
produce a rain and thunderstorm over the far south-west overnight Saturday. This
band will move into the southern interior on Sunday. At this stage any
