MELBOURNE - Jan 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary
Strong wind warnings are current for Victorian coastal waters east of Cape Otway
and for the Gippsland Lakes.
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments
A high pressure system over the south Tasman Sea is gradually strengthening and
will move very slowly eastwards during the next few days. A low pressure trough
over western New South Wales will weaken today. A low pressure system is
expected to develop over the western Bight on Thursday.
Victoria
Tuesday:      Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon
and evening.  Generally warm, humid and mostly cloudy with moderate east to
northeasterly wind, tending east to southeasterly near the coast and freshening.
Fire Danger: Generally high to very high.
UV Index:     12 [extreme] decreasing to 8 [very high] under cloud.
Wednesday:    Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and
evening. Generally warm and humid.
Thursday:     Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly about the ranges. Warm
to hot and humid.
