Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Jan 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A severe thunderstorm warning is current for southern Queensland this evening. STATE FORECAST for Tuesday Showers and thunderstorms over the west of the state increasing over southern Queensland in the afternoon with possible severe thunderstorms. Early rain areas clearing the Maranoa and the western Darling Downs. Showers about the east coast with moderate to fresh E/SE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The upper trough over the south-west of the state will move off the coast by Wednesday resulting in a decrease in showers and storms over much of Qld. The high over the far southern Tasman Sea will move only slowly eastwards while weakening but will still maintain a firm ridge along the east coast into the weekend. This ridge will direct moderate to fresh SE winds and showers into most east coast districts into the weekend. A low pressure system will likely develop over the southern Coral Sea during Friday and Saturday and possibly increase the SE winds and showers about the coast south from Fraser Island. Over the interior of the state an upper ridge will move into the west of the state during Wednesday and keep conditions mostly fine into the weekend.
