Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary
Strong wind warnings are current for Victorian coastal waters east of Cape Otway
and for the Gippsland Lakes.
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments
A strong and slow-moving high pressure system is over the south Tasman Sea .  is
gradually strengthening and will move very slowly eastwards during the next few
days.  A low pressure trough over western New South Wales will weaken on
Tuesday.  A low pressure system is expected to develop over the western Bight on
Thursday.
Victoria
Tuesday:      Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly during the
afternoon and evening.  Generally warm, humid and cloudy with moderate east to
northeasterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.
Fire Danger: Generally high, locally very high in the north and in West
Gippsland.
UV Index:     12 [extreme] decreasing to 8 [very high] under cloud.
Wednesday:    Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and
evening. Generally warm and humid.
Thursday:     Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly about the ranges. Warm
to hot and humid.
