Australian Livestock Auction Action SinksSYDNEY - Dec 22/06 - SNS -- Livestock sold through online auctions managed by AuctionsPlus Pty Ltd dropped during the past week on a general decline in sales activity because of the Christmas holiday period. Throughput for the week totalled 19,604 sheep and lambs, versus 23,896 head the previous week. The number of cattle put through the company's auctions totalled 800, compared to 885 last week. "Sufficient mutton numbers were on offer to suggest an upward trend, yet some irregularity in pricing was still evident," AuctionsPlus's Dean Lemmich said. "The important issue is that it's rising and hopefully, together with the forecasts of some rain, the pending destruction of many sheep on farm will be negated. Heavier store lambs seemed stronger again this week and all in all we should be looking at a good start to the New Year, price wise, provided people can get through till February."
