Steady Week in ChickpeasVANCOUVER- Dec 15/06 - SNS -- Few changes were noted on chickpea markets during the past week, with a seasonal slowdown in demand from some origins more than matched by limited selling among North American growers. This left kabuli chickpeas unchanged on the week, while desi chickpeas were nominally lower as companies holding inventory tried to find prices which worked with end users. Several questions overhang the market, not the least of which is the actual status of the Australian crop. Some traders in Australia say they are looking at the same kind of localized disasters for chickpeas as other pulses. Along with their counterparts in Canada and the United States, they keep looking for a downward revision in official forecasts from Pulse Australia and their government.
