Growers Drive Canaryseed MarketVANCOUVER - Dec 8/06 - SNS -- The final crop production estimate for Canadian canaryseed was not helpful to end users, with a slight reduction encouraging growers to hold more tightly to this year's output. Canada's canaryseed harvest ended up slightly smaller than initially forecast by Statistics Canada and significantly below more optimistic estimates from other sources. The 2006 harvest came in at 118,300 metric tons (MT), down from 1,100 MT from October and over 100,000 tons below last year's 229,200 MT result. Statistics Canada estimated production in Saskatchewan at 112,800 MT and Manitoba at 4,500 MT. Regular canaryseed output came in at 90,600 MT and hairless at 27,700 MT.
