Smaller Than Expected Mustard CropVANCOUVER - Dec 7/06 - SNS -- Mustard seed production in western Canada ended up smaller than initially expected, with the output finishing the season at an estimated 117,600 metric tons (MT), down 4,700 MT from the October forecast and well below last year's 203,400 MT crop. Statistics Canada pegged output in Saskatchewan and Alberta at 116,100 MT, while STAT Market Research believes another 1,500 MT was grown in Manitoba. For the first time, production was broken down by class, with Statistics Canada pegging yellow mustard seed output at 56,700 MT, brown at 32,100 MT, oriental at 4,600 MT, and unspecified production by class at 22,700 MT.
