India Reaffirms Old Crop Mustard-Rape OutputNEW DELHI - Dec 4/06 - SNS -- The Indian government says rapeseed-mustard production in the past two marketing years totalled 7.593 million metric tons (MT) in 2004-05 and 7.887 million MT in 2005-06. As per National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED), the quantity of mustard seeds procured during Rabi Marketing Season 2006 was 2.205 million MT out of which 621,000 MT was sold leaving a balance of 1.584 million MT. The Government has issued a notification for compulsory use of 20% mustard oil in the manufacture of Vanaspati. The disposal of mustard seed procured by NAFED is under review on a regular basis by the Government. NAFED has been advised to arrange disposal of 400,00 to 500,000 MT of mustard seed every month on market rate for minimizing the inventory.
