Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Sep 26/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings current. STATE FORECAST for Friday Cloudy over the western and southern parts of the state with isolated showers and thunderstorms but little or no rain expected. Some morning fogs about the coast south of about Cardwell. Generally fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh southeast winds across the far northern tropics. Hot moderate to fresh northerly winds over the interior and the southeast where a high to very high fire danger. EXTENDED OUTLOOK It will remain hot over most of the state until a much cooler change sweeps across the state over the weekend. The current surface trough is expected to move west, link with the cold front and then move through western and southern districts Saturday and into eastern districts Sunday and Monday. Cloudy conditions with a few showers and thunderstorms are expected over much of the interior and the southeast preceding the cool change but a very dry air mass in the lower levels means any resulting precipitation will be little or none. The ridge along the north tropical coast is expected to weaken on Sunday with any showers up in the area clearing by then. The new high will move into eastern Australia early next week and extend a firm ridge along the eastern seaboard with freshening southeast winds. Temperatures will remain well above average before the cool change. Fire dangers will increase over the west of the state on the weekend in the gusty southeast winds. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
