Desi Traders Ponder Rabi Season ProspectsVANCOUVER - Nov 17/06 - SNS -- International chickpea markets were steady in relatively light demand and limited availability of unsold product from growers in Canada or the United States. Desi chickpea markets were also unchanged, though exporters are watching for news about rabi or winter season area and growing conditions in India and Pakistan. Seeded areas appear to be up sharply over last year, which season opening moisture conditions appear to be adequate in much of the growing area. This clearly points to a rebound in production next year. Crop results will be immediately obvious in Pakistan, which is an "inner and outter" market for pulses.
