Turkey Hatchery Activity RisesWASHINGTON - Nov 15/06 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity in the United States rose above year earlier levels in October, according to the latest USDA hatchery report. Turkey eggs in incubators on November 1, 2006, in the United States totaled 29.9 million, up 9% from November 1, 2005. Eggs in incubators were down 1% from the October 1, 2006 total of 30.3 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up 9% at 4,907,000 eggs; West North Central up 7% at 11,439,000; North and South Atlantic up 14% at 9,813,000; and South Central and West up 4% at 3,736,000 eggs in incubators. The 24.7 million poults placed during October 2006 in the United States were up 15% from the number placed during the same month a year earlier.
