Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 23/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A strong wind warning has been issued for Port Phillip and Western Port.
Weather Pattern
A complex low pressure system south of Western Australia will move slowly
eastward this week and, as it does so, a succession of cold fronts will affect
southeastern Australia. The first front will move through Victoria today,
another later Wednesday, and a third during Friday.
Victoria
Tuesday:   Partly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly over southern and
mountain areas. Isolated thunderstorms in central and eastern areas.  Mild to
warm with fresh northeast to northwesterly winds ahead of a cooler westerly
change extending from the west during the day.
UV Index: 5 [High] reduced to 2 [moderate] under cloud. 
Wednesday: Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing, mainly in
southern and mountain areas. Mild to warm. Freshening winds.
Thursday:  Fine apart from isolated showers in the southwest. Generally mild.
Friday:    Scattered showers, particularly on and south of the ranges. Becoming
cooler.
Forecast for Melbourne
Tuesday
Cloudy at times with a shower or two developing and the risk of a thunderstorm. 
Fresh northeast to northerly winds shifting cooler westerly this afternoon.

Few showers developing.                     Min 10    Max 19
Thursday
Fine.                                       Min 8    Max 19
Friday
Few showers.                                Min 12    Max 17
Trend for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Showers, gradually easing. Cool.  
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Tuesday:   Northeast to northerly winds of 20 to 25 knots reaching 30 knots at
times, shifting westerly at 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon. Waves of 1 to
1.5 metres. A strong wind warning has been issued.
Wednesday: North to northwesterly winds of 15 to 20 knots shifting westerly at
15 to 25 knots later. Waves up to one metre rising to 1 to 1.5 metres.
Thursday:  North to northwesterly winds around 10 to 15 knots. 
Friday:    Northwesterly winds freshening to 20 to 25 knots then shifting west
to southwesterly later.
Headline Melbourne: Shower or two.
