Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 23/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday
Fine throughout most of Queensland. Cloudy conditions over the far southwest
with little or no rain gradually extending eastwards Wednesday. Hot across much
of the state, tempered along the coast with seabreezes. Moderate to fresh
northeast to northwest winds over most central and southern districts ahead of
slightly cooler southerly change in the far southwest later today. Very high
fire danger over western and southern districts.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Most of the state is expected to be hot and dry during this week. A surface
trough will move into the far southwest and then slowly move across western and
southern districts during the week, without reaching the east coast before the
weekend. High based cloudband will accompany the trough but little or no
precipitation will result. It will be generally hot over most of the state for
the next few days. It will be slightly cooler under the cloud band and west of
the trough and in coastal parts owing to seabreezes. The southeast winds along
the far north tropical coast will pick up over the next day or so, however the
moisture levels will be too shallow to support any shower activity. Morning fogs
are expected in central and southern coastal areas over the next few days.
