Smaller Indian Oilseed CropNEW DELHI - Nov 13/06 - SNS -- Oilseed production in India is expected to be down slightly in 2006-07 from last year, according to data compiled by the Central Organisation for Oil Industry & Trade (COOIT). Total output is forecast at 12.84 million metric tons (MT) from 16.883 million hectares, down from last year's 13.7 million MT harvest from 17.681 million hectares. With the exception of soybean, production of all major oilseeds is expected to decline this season. Soybean is the most important oilseed produced in India and output is forecast at 7.26 million MT from 8.118 million hectares, versus 7.05 million from 7.801 million hectares in 2005-06.
