Field Pea Harvest Slips in U.S.WASHINGTON - Nov 9/06 - SNS -- Field pea production in the United States ended up at 13.1 million cwt (100 pound units) or 594,348 metric tons (MT) this year, down 6% from the 2005 estimate, according to the USDA's crop production estimates. North Dakota retained its position as the number field pea producing region in the United States this year, growing 71% of the crop, up slightly from a 69.9% market share last year. Area for harvest across the five main producing states totalled 876,100 acres, is 14% above a year ago. Average yield is forecast at 1,496 pounds per acre, down 332 pounds from last season.
