White Beans Strong, Colored MixedVANCOUVER - Oct 20/06 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets finished the week's trading on a mixed note against relatively moderate trading volumes. Even so, the spot market index for U.S. origin dry edible beans finished the week up 15 points at 823; while the grower index was down five points at 707, reflecting improved availability of freshly harvested beans in major market zones in the United States. Interestingly, processors report grower selling activity is slow across much of the United States. This suggests that product coming available is enough to cover the short term needs of processors. Rising inter-dealer markets, on the other hand, indicates there is not a lot of confidence growers will sell at today's prices and therefore pricing is becoming defensive.
