Lentils Gain StrengthVANCOUVER - Oct 20/06 - SNS -- Lentil markets continued to strengthen throughout the past week, helped by tightening supplies of whole green lentils in Canada and relatively strong buying by the USDA for food aid in the United States. Grower bid levels for large green lentils ended the week on a strong note, with reports of CDN $16 per 100 pounds (cwt) being paid for farmers dressed product delivered western Canadian processing plants. The improvement in spot market values is now seeing growers with good quality old crop large green lentils trying to get then accepted as new crop.
