Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Sep 18/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Thursday Fine almost throughout. Only isolated showers likely through Torres Strait and far northern Cape York Peninsula. Winds generally light to moderate SW to SE, cool and gusty about the south-east. A high to very high fire danger. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Conditions will remain fine in most areas of the state through the weekend. The high over South Australia will move slowly eastwards over the next few days before decaying as a new high forms in the Tasman Sea. The high will initially maintain dry S to SE winds across most of the state. However, over the far northern tropics winds will gradually become moister as the flow becomes more onshore and consequently, this will allow some showers to develop along the east coast north of Cooktown by Saturday. Along the remaining east coast winds will shift SE to NE late Friday as the high in the Tasman Sea begins to build. An upper trough will move across the state on Saturday and may trigger isolated showers about the coast and adjacent inland. In the wake of this system dry SW winds will again spread across southern Qld and allow fine conditions to return to this area. From Friday onwards some late showers will also develop about --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
