Partial Re-export Ban on Canadian BeefWASHINGTON - Oct 6/06 - SNS -- The United States is imposing a partial ban on the re-export of Canadian beef to Taiwan at the request of that country. Under the updated requirements, beef from Canadian cattle that has been imported for immediate slaughter cannot be used to cover beef exports to Taiwan. Only beef from Canadian cattle which have been produced under an approved Agricultural Marketing Service Export Verification program is eligible for export. In order to restart beef trade with Taiwan, the United States had to implement an age verification program because meat must come from animals under 30 months of age.
