World Cotton Stocks TighteningWASHINGTON - Oct 3/06 - SNS -- World cotton stocks are expected to maintain their current downward trend through the end of the 2007-08 marketing year, believes the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC). World cotton ending stocks are projected at 11.6 million metric tons (MT) by the close of the 2006-07 marketing year and 11.5 million MT by the close of the 2007-08 season. If realized, that would represent the third consecutive season of reduced residual supplies of cotton on world markets. International cotton production is projected at 25 million MT in 2006-07. China (Mainland), India and Pakistan combined are expected to produce 13 million MT in 2006-07, or over half of world production for the first time in history.
