Cost of Farming Slips in SeptemberWASHINGTON - Sep 28/06 - SNS -- The cost of farming in the United States inched lower during in September, according to the USDA. The September Index of Prices Paid for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW) is 147% of the 1990-92 average. The index is down 1 point (0.7%) from August but 5 points (3.5%) above September 2005. Lower prices in September for diesel fuel, gasoline, nitrogen fertilizers, and feed concentrates offset higher prices for feeder cattle, feeder pigs, hay & forages, and mixed fertilizers.
