Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Sep 14/02 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Torres Strait and St. Lawrence. STATE FORECAST for Sunday A few showers in east coastal districts and about the Gulf of Carpentaria. Fine inland. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds along the east coast and moderate E to NE winds elsewhere. High to very high fire danger over the interior. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The large high over the Tasman Sea will move slowly east and begin to weaken after today. As a result, SE winds along the Queensland east coast will ease and coastal showers will contract towards the tropics. The interior of the state can expect fine weather at first. The next surface and upper level trough will reach southwest Queensland late on Monday accompanied by a band of showers and isolated thunderstorms. The trough and band of weather will move into eastern districts on Tuesday before clearing seawards.
