Red Lentils Lead Complex HigherVANCOUVER - Sep 22/06 - SNS -- Red lentils led markets higher in this complex, spurred by strong demand from the Indian subcontinent and an increasingly bullish attitude among growers. Markets have risen steadily at the grower level since the middle of August, advancing around U.S. $35 per metric ton (MT), while inter-dealer markets have risen around $22 MT. Lentil markets in the United States were also bolstered at week's end by announcement of a USDA tender for 2,740 metric tons (MT) of lentils for shipment to Sudan in November Attitudes on North American red lentil markets were helped by the USDA's purchase of 2,610 MT of that class for shipment as food aid to Sri Lanka in November.
